A MAN STRUGGLES TO LEAVE THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE BEHIND.
Lady Winter is tells story of a man’s emotional departure from the love of his life, the spirit of a mountain. Vincent René-Lortie & Brittney Canda’s Lady Winter for Toronto-based folk trio The O’Pears is a haunting exploration of reluctantly moving on from where you feel most at peace.
"When we first spoke with the band, they revealed that their eerie lullaby was unusually inspired by an ongoing inside joke with one of their friends who is a professional skier. They frequently tease him, "The mountain is your mistress" and "Your lady is the winter". We wanted to create a piece that expressed a unique kind of love, a mutual and tender relationship between a man and the land he lives upon. We used contemporary choreography to connect Brittney’s character to the winter environment. Her performance mimics the cracking ice and swirling wind of a winter storm. The avalanche at represents the heartbreak that the mountain feels for the loss of it's caring habitant."
